Sandend
At Sandend the topography was the principle constraint of the site so it was imperative the layout works along the contours. Embankments at the top and low sides of the site will allow for accessible levels within the housing zone.
The layout has been designed to reflect requests within the local development plan. Two layers of housing is provided running perpendicular to the adjacent road. The houses work with the contours and are accessed from a small section of road and shared surface following the principles of Designing Streets.
Taking inspiration from the traditional gable ends at the harbour, the house types proposed will present a similar character from their prominent position on the hillside. Gables ends will offer each house an aspect out across the bay whilst adding interest along Seaview road with their key frontages viewed on route to the harbour.
Similar forms reflect that of the gables along the harbour. However larger apertures will provide residents with generous views across the bay between and over the houses, taking advantage of their position on the hillside.
